Schroeder became highly contentious online during the proceedings with some claiming he was playing obvious favorites towards Rittenhouse, often overruling or not allowing the prosecution to continue on certain courses of action (such as not allowing the two deceased men to be called "victims" before the trial began). Memes were then made about Binger to make him into a stereotypical Soy Boy, saying that he was unable to answer any real questions (example seen below). Various images of this moment then became the first meme of the trial, known as Kyle Rittenhouse Crying (example shown below). During his testimony of the events that happened that night in Kenosha, he began to tear up and cry. Things took an unexpected turn on November 10th, 2021, when Rittenhouse himself took the stand. The trial proceeded normally with the prosecution showing evidence to the jury, explaining how the evidence condemned Rittenhouse, and then the defense cross-examined and tried to find holes in the theory and logic. The trial of Kyle Rittenhouse began on November 1st, 2021, and lasted a total of 18 days. These felony charges also include the modifier “use of a dangerous weapon,” which adds “no more than five years of imprisonment for each of the charges if found guilty.” The misdemeanor charge also included possession of a dangerous weapon as a minor. Rittenhouse indictment, six charges were brought against Rittenhouse for first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide and attempted homicide. On August 28th, Rittenhouse appeared at an extradition hearing with his assigned public defender, according to The Daily Beast. The event also trended on Twitter that day. In the complaint, Rittenhouse was also labeled as a “fugitive from justice” for fleeing Wisconsin with “intent to avoid prosecution.” Under state law, he was to be charged as an adult. They feel that the meme wasn’t merely in poor taste, as it trivialized the deaths of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, but that it implied that James was right about Rittenhouse’s tears on the stand. In a follow-up tweet, Rittenhouse described it as a “funny video.” Some people loved it as much as he apparently does. He added two crying while laughing emojis. it’s the burning hole in my pocket thanks to a Joe Biden presidency,” Rittenhouse captioned a video by that spliced together footage of him crying on the stand with an assault rifle, a car, and a gas pump. Thursday night, Rittenhouse tweeted a meme that played on LeBron’s quip about the sour candy. Man knock it off! That boy ate some lemon heads before walking into court,” the basketball legend tweeted.
One of the more memorable critics was LeBron James, who accused Rittenhouse of crying fake tears when he testified during the trial. Rittenhouse killed two people in Kenosha, Wisconsin during a period of intense unrest in 2020 associated with social justice protests over police killings of Black people.
The trial drew international attention and condemnation from all sides. Rittenhouse was found not guilty of murder and attempted murder late last year. Kyle Rittenhouse received intense backlash by sharing a meme of himself crying on the witness stand in an attempt to attack President Joe Biden over gas prices.
